I did my undergraduate work at the University of California at Irvine. I majored in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics I went on to a career in the pharmaceutical industry. I spent 12 years in quality management which helped me develop a passion for organizational management.
In the middle of this career, I was captured by God’s Spirit and gave my life to Christ; that was in 1980. Eight years later, the Lord called me into full time Christian ministry. I attended Denver Seminary where I majored in New Testament. After completing my Master’s degree, I worked to help establish three church plants and developed their discipleship programs as well as teaching and preaching.
While planting churches, I kept my hand in college teaching. I taught at CCU in the mid-90’s and at Denver Seminary. I also worked as a consultant doing training with churches and Christian organizations in the area of volunteer management. I continue to have a passion for teaching leadership development in the local church.
I went on staff in July 2000 with Church of the Holy Spirit, the daughter church of Christ Church. I worked with Fr. Geoff Gwynne developing the infrastructure of the church. I took on interim duties after Fr. Gwynne left until the church called Fr. Roger Bower as its second Vicar.
In March 2004, I came on staff with Christ Church in the areas of discipleship and community life. I have worked most extensively with the adult education and small group ministry while also giving attention to pastoral care and parish life events. My wife, Diane, supports me in this ministry by mentoring women, teaching in adult classes, and doing workshops on listening to God.
Both Diane and I sense God’s strong calling to be here at Christ Church and we bring a rather diverse background spiritually. Diane was raised Roman Catholic, found the Lord in a Friends Church (Quaker), and was discipled in a non-denominational charismatic church in Indiana. I started my spiritual journey at the original Calvary Chapel (Charismatic), was discipled in a Grace Brethren Church, helped plant Conservative Baptist and General Conference Baptist churches (I am ordained in the Baptist General Conference), and have worked in the Episcopal Church for the past six years.
I appreciate the Anglican tradition and I find the weekly observance of Communion to be the pinnacle of the worship experience. My life mission is to “Identify and develop leaders who are passionate to serve God in the local church.” Diane has as her life goal to “know Christ intimately and to make Him intimately known.” Together we are about making Christ Church become all that God wants her to be and for the parish to truly experience the fullness of Christ’s transforming love.
