God calls each of us
to experience and extend
the message and the mercy of the Gospel
to our community and the world

The Outreach Commission @ Christ Church
This commission exists to mobilize the members of Christ Church into ownership of and involvement in God's global cause; beginning with reaching the needy in Denver and continuing to where our ministry partners work to bring the name of Jesus Christ to those who have never heard the good news. It is done through financial partnership with supported ministries, educating the congregation regarding what God is doing outside our church and providing opportunities for individuals, families, small groups and others to become personally involved. We are also charged with the task of allocating funds designated for outreach. Currently Christ Church gives 10% of plate and pledge to outreach. Members establish a criteria for evaluating worthy Christian organizations, here and abroad; read and review applications; interview organizational representatives and determine how our funds will be used. This commission meets once a month from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. Members also spend approximately 4-10 hours between meetings on Outreach-related activities. There are opportunities for volunteers with skills in communications, graphics, event coordination, desktop publishing, but above all, simply a heart to pray and share what God is doing in the world beyond the doors of our church.
The Rev. Tom Danitschek

Metro CareRing --> metrocarering.org
Metro CareRing was started in 1974 by five downtown Denver churches that were seeing an increasing need for services. Metro CareRing is now supported by over 40 faith communities who donate food, toiletries and household items. Clients receive assistance with food, utilities, work items, id documents and referrals to other agencies that may be able to assist them. Volunteers are the heart of Metro CareRing. With only five paid staff, it is the team of over 170 volunteers who make our work possible on a daily basis. People are needed to work in the pantry filling food orders, assisting clients at our front desk, and meeting with clients one-on-one as counselors. Training is provided for all jobs. Volunteer hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday (1/2 day shifts are available) and from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Christ Church is in communication with various Christian organizations that offer prayer ministry in various settings. We are often called upon to provide volunteer prayer ministers for conferences, retreats, and mission trips. Volunteers trained in inner healing, deliverance ministry, and intercession are welcome to have their names added to our database to be called on for upcoming events. More details are available on request.

SHARE Colorado
The goal of SHARE is to help families save about 50% on their groceries, while encouraging the building of relationships with their neighbors in the community. Common food items, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats are purchased through a national affiliate network, in massive quantities at very low prices and distributed through a network of volunteers to host sites. SHARE is a national program of food distribution under the umbrella of Catholic Charities. Christ Church has been a host site for approximately 10 years.

Anyone can participate in receiving food on a monthly basis at wholesale prices. Food is distributed the fourth Saturday of every month (3rd Saturday in holiday months). You sign up for food two to four weeks ahead and pay a nominal fee at that time. It is also strongly urged that you do at least two hours of volunteer work every month, but it is not a requirement to receive the food. We need people go the warehouse early on Saturday morning to pick up the food. This takes about 1-2 hours total. Then there is a team of people at the church who set the food out, check people in to make sure they've paid, etc., and distribute the food. People usually work 2 hours, although the total time that this is set up on Saturdays is 4 hours. SHARE relies heavily on volunteers and passes on the huge savings by our reduced expense.
You can also:
• Tell others about SHARE
• Help in the SHARE warehouse or the front office
• Help at a SHARE host site during registration or distribution days
• Help distribute flyers and newspapers for SHARE.

St. Francis Center --> sfcdenver.org
Originally designed as a day-shelter and advocacy program for the homeless, mentally ill and older people. Now St Francis has expanded to also provide housing assistance, job placement, and advocacy for homeless. Volunteers are needed at St. Francis Center to assist staff in providing services to our guests. Volunteers do a wide variety of tasks. At the mail and storage desk guests receive their mail and store personal belongings. Also at this service area, volunteers check out items such as irons, hair dryers, shoe polish, and sewing supplies. In the clothing room guests "shop" for clothing with clothing vouchers they have received by helping to clean the center, operating the clothing room is a popular volunteer activity. In the laundry area, volunteers help sort donations, and do laundry. The men's shower is attended by staff and volunteers and we provide socks, towels, soap, and other services and supplies to the guests. The women's shower operates unattended. Volunteers are welcome every day and provide the "people power" necessary for the doors to be open and for St. Francis Center to provide a welcome to all people who need shelter during the day.

Zimbabwe Project
Our missionary in Zimbabwe, Delene Thomas, and the staff of Youth for Christ Bulawayo, are trying to keep over 200 families alive and hopeful in a desperate economic and political situation. Currently they are developing a small acreage into a self-sufficient community to feed and protect widows, orphans, and victims of abuse and torture. We are pledged to do what we can to support them; including shipping much needed supplies and clothing whenever possible. Members of the parish are periodically called on to donate food, medical supplies, clothing, household and educational supplies for this ministry. Zimbabwe Pack and Pray Parties are announced in the bulletin for anyone wanting to help inventory, pack, label, and ship boxes. We occasionally need a pickup truck to take pallets of boxes to the air freight company.

* The following are "Dream" Ministries: ministries Christ Church would like to implement in the future.

*Habitat for Humanity
Interest has been expressed in putting together a team of people from Christ Church to work with Habitat for Humanity, building houses for low income, qualified families. Carpentry skills desired, but not required, as there are many different kinds of tasks on each job site.
Ministry Coordinator needed, if willing, contact the church office
*Short Term Mission Trips for Adults/ Families
There is a growing desire to organize short term mission trips for adults. We have been presented with opportunities to travel to Uganda with David Mporampora and well as a possible trip to Zimbabwe to work with Delene Thomas at the Samkele property. Any mission trip has several components beyond the actual travel to the site. Financial support is often needed, especially if a non-traveler would be willing to sponsor another person who would love to travel but can't afford it. Intercessors are vital for preparation, travel, safety and other concerns. Training in culture and language is often necessary. If you are interested in any of these possibilities, please contact us.

*International Student Ministry
Want to do "virtual travel"? Do hospitality with a purpose? You'll have a chance to be an ambassador of God's Kingdom by serving scholars at the University of Denver. We would like to start a ministry to befriend international students at the University of Denver. (2-4 hours per month) From airport pickups to having a student over for dinner to including him/her in your American family, this is a great opportunity to love foreign scholars in Jesus' name.
