by self examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self denial;
and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.” Book of Common Prayer

CHRIST CHURCH'S PRAYER
from June Newsletter 2006
based on Ephesians 3

“Merciful Father, we bow our knee before you,
for you name every family in heaven and earth.
Behold the church, your family,
for which you sent your son and heir to open to us the riches of your grace and glory.
Behold this body you named “Christ Church”.

Because you have given us power and authority to bind and loose one another,
lead us to express in true humility, sincere regret for the hurt we cause
and godly sorrow for our sin against your will and your rule.
Through confession and repentance restore your church
to a full communion with you and all the saints.

Root and ground us again in the breadth, length, height and depth of your love.
May the cross-shaped dimensions of your immeasurable power
hold us together until we are brought to the surpassing knowledge of what you intend for us.
Empty, broken, crushed, restless, rebellious, and resigned, yet filled with hope —
may we yet be filled with all the fullness of your divine life.

Accomplish in us that which you purpose, that we cannot imagine or ask for
— even to be your wisdom to the rulers and authorities in the high places.
May the suffering that comes by embracing your command to be reconciled
be the mark of the glory we seek, through Jesus Christ, our Head. Amen.”
