Buildings & Grounds

Our new digital sign was installed in first quarter 2022.

DIGITAL SIGN

Construction on the digital sign located on the west side of the building along University Blvd. was completed in the first quarter of the year and its display not only complements the overall aesthetics of the church, but it also effectively communicates our mission and purpose to the watching world.

ORGAN MODERNIZATION PROJECT

We made steady progress on the parish's multi-year Organ Modernization Project which began in 2020. Under the professional oversight of our Music Director, Dan Dufford, progress included completion of the pipe chamber's exterior facade, installation of pipe work on new wind chests in the chamber's upper level, completion of a refurbished 3-manual organ console, renovation of the choir loft, and refinishing the sanctuary's original hardwood floor. In the fall, work generally shifted to less visible work inside the chamber. Ongoing work is currently focused on continued refinement and voicing of the chamber's upper level, and the build-out of the chest work and mechanism for the chamber's lower level. In addition to the 1300 pipes installed thus far, bass pipes and several louder stops will be installed next year. In the meantime, the organ has been placed into service on Sunday mornings as a part of our worship, and can be heard accompanying the choir during anthems and the congregation during psalm singing.

The progress made on this project is due solely to the extraordinary skill and expertise of the following individuals: Ron Breaux, John Bredehoeft, Michael Brown, Dan Dufford, Bruce Dunn, Heidi Farr, Gary Hard, Sarah Kanyok, Frank Olson, Steve Petty, and Dave Prentice.

TECHNOLOGY EXPANSION PROJECT

A portion of the funds raised in the 2021 mini-capital campaign were allocated to expand the technological reach of the church both internally and externally. The first phase of the project was completed this year and included the addition of video conferencing to Room 217 for asynchronous learning using the Zoom platform. The success of this phase showed proof of concept and allows the project to progress with design proposals for The Loft and West Room in the coming year.

WORKSHOP

After clearing out space in the basement storage areas, the Facilities team began work on a dedicated, climate-controlled, multi-purpose workshop that will include: workbenches, dust collection, and power tool storage. The Organ Project team has already benefited from the space as they cut, built, painted, and stained various components throughout the winter.

GROUNDS IMPROVEMENTS

In July and November, the congregation was invited to participate in a property-wide clean-up day led by Heidi Farr our Facility Manager. John Bredehoeft, Bruce Dunn, David Ferrill, Spence Fluornoy, Jim Helfridge, Patty Husman, Michael James, Terry McGugan, Anna McLean, Allison Moore, John Morrison, Steve and Nancy Petty, Terri Rice, Betsy Welty, Karl Wesselhoeft, the Farr family and others pitched in to weed, refresh mulch, and prune back bedding plants and shrubs, among other activities. The Facilities team plans to host these outdoor cleanup days three times a year: in the spring, summer and autumn.

SPECIAL THANKS

After seven years of faithful service as the Facility Manager of Christ Church, Dave Prentice, retired in the spring. His servant-hearted work ethic and godly demeanor will certainly be missed, but we are thankful for how he trained and mentored his successor, Heidi Farr, and look forward to the unique skills and extensive experience she brings to the role.

The Building & Grounds Committee includes John Bredehoeft, Bruce Dunn, Heidi Farr, Ron Fish, Rebecca Ogden, and Brady TenBarge. The church is extremely grateful for their dedicated efforts to maintain our facility in its excellent condition.
